The name Sutherland has been synonymous with traditional potted beef and sandwich spreads since the company’s launch back in 1927 by Edwin Talbot Sutherland.

A truly family business - the spread was first made by Edwin’s wife, Mary, in their own domestic kitchen - their celebrated Yorkshire Potted Beef proved to be an instant hit.

In 1965, with his business growing from strength to strength, Edwin made the decision to move the company to a purpose-built site 10 miles down the road in Kiveton, Sheffield. Many of the original employees made the move too and sales of Sutherland potted meat continued to soar.
